All About Reptiles
bullshit-bullsharks:

The European Legless Lizard (Pseudopus apodus), otherwise known as the Sheltopusik, is a type of glass lizard which inhabits land ranging from southern Europe to central Asia. They are not snakes, but rather lizards lacking legs. The way you can tell the difference is these lizards have ears, eyelids, and ventral scales. You’ll typically find these unique reptiles slithering their way around in open country, such as short grassland and sparsely wooded hills. They’re pretty good predators, consuming arthropods and small mammals. They favor snails and slugs, which is why these clever critters appear to be more active in wet weather. Their self defense consists of hissing, biting and musking. They try to keep their tail for as long as possible, unlike their relatives. But if worst comes to worst, they loose the tail which can later break up into more pieces (formerly thought to have rejoined with the lizard later on, hence the name ‘glass lizard’). The lizard will grow back the tail, slowly but surely, and it will appear a bit darker in color.
